while researching my new opossum friends i learned that

• opossums have like 60 teeth
• they hiss and posture to make it seem like they’re good at defending themselves. they are not good at defending themselves. 
• (but you still shouldn’t corner any wild animal.)
• they eat bugs and old fruit and garbage and rodents and things. basically whatever.
• they are supremely lazy and are unlikely to dig burrows or knock over trashcans, but if another animal does it they will take advantage.
• it’s normal for them to be outside during the day sometimes.
• they are one of the most resistant-to-rabies mammals out there! humans are more likely to be rabid than opossums
• they have forked penises/bifurcated vaginas (???)
• their “playing dead” thing is a reflex they can’t control (like fainting) but they stay conscious during it (not like fainting)

pretty good stuff. god’s creatures are truly wonderful
