Another reason why Black Panther’s success is important is because now Hollywood will look at it and say, “Hm, maybe not every single movie featuring black people has to be a period piece.”

Here’s the thing. I love period pieces as much as the next one but whenever they focus on black people, they’re usually about slavery. Yes, it’s important to show how terrible slavery was but the thing is those movies can be extremely hard to watch and it’s also just depressing. I love 12 Years a Slave but that is not a movie you can rewatch a lot. It’s depressing, it’s disturbing, you feel sad afterward. Black Panther? It’s fun, it’s exciting, it’s colorful!

That is one of the reasons why BP is important. It’s showing Hollywood that black people want to see more sci-fi and fantasy movies that feature black people.

Yes. BP was sci-fi, fantasy, action, adventure, political drama. ALL OF THESE GENRES!!!!
