me: ok but research isn’t free??? you have to pay for the materials? and pay people to do it? and subjects to participate and medical personnel to administer drugs and technicians and analysists to analyse results? how exactly do you want new medical treatments to be invented?
people: we’ll give money to charities
me: charities are not labs, they don’t do research, they just gobble up money and spend it on “awareness campaigns”
people: but they give me a ribbon! and it’s tax-deductible!
