Reblog to save a life

Note from a graphic designer who has to fix this shit all day: rich black is prettier sure but for the love of the gods don’t use it for text if it’s going on newsprint. If its anything other than solid black it will bleed out and become unreadable.

Half my job is fixing this mistake all day from people who really really should know better. And now you know!

And from someone who grew up in the printing industry: every solid black ever should be a rich black. Not only does it look better, but if you use a plain black on a large background, you will have all kinda of scuffs and obvious printing mistakes throughout. If the printing plate is damaged (which there’s usually a couple little scratches or dings in there, yeah) then everywhere there’s an imperfection there’s gonna be a white spot in your sea of black. BUT, if you use a rich black, you have three other printing plates (cyan, magenta, yellow) to help you disguise those holes! The plates aren’t all gonna be damaged in the same exact spot. Little imperfections in the plate become negligible because all four colors blend together and disguise where the plate is messed up!
