reblogged your post and added:I didn’t realize how far along you were! (I’ve had…
Ah, life. I heard that it tends to happen on occasion *g* Glad you liked it, though!
With noticing things… I think the fact that I write up my thoughts for an audience afterwards does help to crystallise a lot of things I would otherwise have forgotten about into concrete thoughts. (Though Belle’s impulsiveness is something… well, it reminded me of someone I know and love a lot, so I may have had an unfair advantage there)
As for Milah… yyyyeah, no, she didn’t exactly endear herself to me. To put it mildly.
And all the yes on Rumple having several lifetimes’ worth of a habit of playing things close to his chest. Actually, I think it started even before that, because… well, he obviously didn’t have many (or any, really) friends in his village, and he is not the kind of person who would unload his personal worries on his son. So he’s just… not talked about them to anyone for however-long-the-hell-it’s-been. (I have been advised to treat timelines on this show with a kind eye and maybe the occasional handwave, and I think that’s not the worst idea XD) The thing is… he obviously knows that this is a problem. Oh, he probably makes up all kinds of excuses to avoid the realisation (”I didn’t lie to her” yeah, pal, but that’s not the issue and you know it), but in the end, he still gets there and as you said: he tries to do better for his loved ones. (Or loved one, currently, since Bae is still nowhere to be seen. ::taps watch:: Hurry up, buddy, none of us are getting any younger)
That’s something I’m starting to love more and more about Rumple – he’s both one for the grand dramatic gestures (e.g. that… thing in the woods in “Desperate Souls” where he threw personal dignity allll the way out of the window to buy his son a few more hours of freedom), but also for the small ones, like asking a professional how to deal with his (presumed) son’s resentment of him (and I think anyone who’s ever had therapy knows how hard it must have been to knock on that door), or asking Charming – a man he might respect, but who he’s not really friends with (yet? ::fingers crossed::) – for advice on how to improve his relationship with Belle. It’s just… he tries so hard. He also messes up pretty spectacularly, but dear God, he tries.
…actually, that makes the whole drama at the bean portal (I love this show) even more tragic. Because if he’d actualy had the time to think that through, or maybe, y’know, talk it over with another actual adult, I have no doubt he’d have gone through with Bae. Not happily or boldly, maybe, but definitely willingly. Instead… welp.
Was this almost half as long as the actual impressions post? Mayyyyybe. I did mention the “favourite character” thing, right?
What’s also really cool about Rumple is that Bobby plays him differently in every episode depending on when the flashbacks take place. He changes the accent and mannerisms ever so slightly to reflect how Rumple is becoming a different person.
