On this day, 22 May 1920, the anti-Semitic hoax document the Protocols of the Elders of Zion was printed by auto industry mogul Henry Ford in the Dearborn Independent, inaugurating a policy of anti-semitism in that paper. The paper was sold in all Ford outlets, and had a circulation of 700,000. For his efforts, Henry Ford was later presented with the Grand Cross Of the Supreme Order of the German Eagle by Adolf Hitler, the highest Nazi order which could be awarded to a non-German.
