I think this is referring to the new Luke Cage trailer which is heavily focused on Mariah Dillard?? Okay, first of all, this trailer has so much character development and is so Mariah-centric. I am all for this! The last trailers seemed more like teasers, but I feel like we got 2 minutes of pure story in that trailer…. I’m so hyped!!
Mariah’s predecessors were too small minded- they wanted to amass money and influence, but only within the crime syndicates, when the real power is in politics. Since the end of Season 1, it looks like she’s been able to open the Crispus Attucks Complex, and it seems like she’s running weapons through the organization. She’s proven that she has no problems getting her hands dirty to bring her version of change and progress to Harlem, and I gotta say… I respect her for this. There’s a line that divides villains from heroes and anti-heroes and she’s firmly on the villainous side. But I think her endgame is about positive change for Harlem. Someday, I think she hopes people will look back on her legacy and draw that line further back- Mariah did what needed to be done. That scene when she’s talking about how “black women have always had superpowers, turning pain into progress,” shit… that is so powerful. You’re all wasting your time fearing and revering men who shoot bullets and deflect them, when she’s out here erecting buildings and changing the landscape of the neighborhood- a thankless job, as proof in that last scene of the trailer- ‘Cause without me, God help Harlem.’
Regarding Luke and Mariah… what’s that saying- “better the devil you know, than the devil you don’t?” Mariah has some history with the Bushmaster, and I’m super curious to know what this is. The other thing is, MARIAH HAS A DAUGHTER?! They seem to have a contemptuous relationship, and I think (it was in a short scene) that her daughter is working with the Bushmaster? DRAMA.
Also what does her daughter think of her mom’s new boyfriend.

So much good Shady Mariah bits in this trailer. When Shades locked eyes with her and kissed her hand, I almost screamed out loud. It’s difficult to judge the entire progress of their relationship since we last saw them, but all of Shades scenes in this trailer implies that he’s on her side, and he’ll do what he has to do to protect her. I am sincerely hoping that Theo Rossi’s cryptic #RIVALS, is more of US vs The World than anything else.
Also, this is a headcanon, that I hope is actual canon, but I think Bushmaster breaks into Shades’ apartment to try to get to Mariah, so we finally get to see Shades’ apartment (just reminiscing with @shadymariahdumpsterfire when we tried to figure out what his place might look like in 2016) I’m guessing this is his place because we see the Basquiat on the wall, that was taken down since the end of Season 1. Or perhaps this is their secret love nest! All the better!
