makingqueerhistory:

There has been a disturbing trend I have noticed in discussions of queer history and I think it is important to address.

There are a lot of people saying things like “people who talk about queer history and don’t know about (fill in the blank) are ridiculous”. And that in itself is not a problem but the blank is ALWAYS filled with something from American/British history.

I have discussed this before but I want to say it again, prioritizing American/British history is a horrible trend that is aggressively prevalent within the queer community. And posts and discussions that place those narratives as Need to Know yet never place importance on stories from other countries are incredibly damaging and something people need to keep an eye on in the projects and work they follow and in themselves.

We can do better than this, we have to do better than this.

Yes, Kevin, I brought my Game Boy to school. Did it bring you joy when you told the teacher? Did it satisfy your bloodlust when she confiscated it from me? You are no paragon of virtue. You are a beast. A vile monstrosity who feeds on suffering. The laws of man may celebrate your deeds, but higher powers may say otherwise.

i mean yea of course you should report actual harmful behavior but if you told mrs henderson that some kid brought his yugioh cards to school cause you wanna be the teacher’s pet, then you’re just a cop

I need everyone to stop thinking that monogamy is a problem that polyamory solves so we can all finally recognize that relationships under patriarchy, be they monogamous or polyamorous, are afflicted with the same power imbalance skewed towards men leading to the whole set of problems (e.g. infidelity, abuse, uneven distribution of labor in relationships) that we’ve come to erroneously associate with monogamy thanks for coming to my Ted talk

I was checking out at Walmart, and as I was reaching for my bags I said, “Happy Holidays!”
And the cashier leaned in like she was sharing a secret and said “Merry Christmas.”
So I smiled politely and said, “Blessed Yule!”
And the look that spread across her face, you would have thought I’d literally stolen Christmas from her.

If you’re going to make a point of wishing me a happy whatever-you-celebrate, I’m going to make a point of wishing you a happy whatever-I-celebrate, and if you think that’s wrong you should consider getting “hypocrite” tattooed across your forehead.

It’s that time of year again

A post I made has officially become an “it’s that time of year again” post and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t honored
