Been reading some of George III’s papers on the Royal Collection website (they have facsimiles of over 35,000 documents so….take a look) and some of them are his personal notes on the transit of Venus seen in 1769 and, amongst the diagrams, he’s written that the next time this will happen will be in ‘The year 1874 and the year 2004.’

Isn’t it funny to think of people in the past thinking about the distant future?
