People wouldn’t say “oh plz protect my poor baby Ben, he’s suffering”, treat him like a 13 year old child even though he is 30, or ship him with Rey after he kidnapped her, tortured her, force pushed her into a tree, killed her father figure, almost killed her close friend, manipulated her, said that she was “nothing, except to him”, tried to convince her to abandon her friends, ordered her to be blown out of the sky, and then threatened to destroy her…because they touched hands…nope.
And if Finn had looked like this.
People would probably think he’s the new Luke Skywalker, shit, even I would. There would be no question that he is the male lead of the trilogy, he wouldn’t be shrunken or removed in posters, removed from trailers entirely, he would have more merchandise, the Finn Skywalker and Force Sensitive Finn theories would be through the roof, Finnrey would be the most popular ship, probably even canon by the end of the first movie.

tbh i think they would probably say fic is mostly private, or at least only seen by people explicitly looking for it, and pride is public. that said, “too much pda at a public event!” reminds me of when i was young and i would get afraid that my parents were acting like fobs without realizing it because of internalized racism. it’s at least partly internalized homophobia that they just need to sort through. if they’re really having an issue where they’re being dragged into pda situations against their will then they need to have a conversation about consent, not pda
I think it depends on the medium the fic is on. Like for example tumblr’s recommendation algorithm keeps recommending me c137cest because I follow the Rick and Morty tag and it’s only because the folks who make it are kind enough to tag that I don’t see it unfiltered. If they didn’t tag then I would have to choose whether to unfollow the “rick and morty” tag altogether or deal with seeing it sometimes.

It’s the final battle, and urged on by Finn the Stormtroopers have rebelled (because that storyline *needs* to happen) and Poe’s shepherding them to safety like the warm, caring person he actually is.
But there’s a weapon, because there’s always a weapon in SW movies, and Supreme Leader Ren is about to use it. And so Finn and Rey have to take him down together, in an actually well choreographed fight with the Knights of Ren in an actual set that doesn’t look like the staging for bad experimental opera.
By the end, Finn has Kylo Ren at his mercy. And then it happens: Kylo cries – he begs Finn to understand that he never had a choice, that he didn’t mean to turn into this monster. And Finn, who has a soft heart inside of him despite all he’s been through, is taken in by it. He turns his back on Kylo for one second.
And then Kylo strikes, because of course he does. Only Rey’s been fooled once and she won’t be fooled twice – she won’t let the man she loves pay for making the same mistake she did. She intercepts Kylo’s blow and turns it back on him and Kylo Ren is killed at last, impaled on the light saber he used to kill his own father. And so we have a fitting end to the anti-redemption arc Kylo Ren started in The Force Awakens and continued, despite all its faults, in The Last Jedi.
And the force ghosts of Leia and Luke watch and smile as Finn and Rey walk off into their happy ending together.
LMAO. This would be the most generic thing JJ could do. And it would shit all over the Skywalker/Solo bloodlines (and it would render the OT pointless as there’s no joy in seeing anything the original trio accomplished because we’ll know their bloodline ends in tragedy). BTW, in response to your reply to me about Bruce/Selina, yes, Reylo is like Bruce/Selina. The enemies to lovers trope. Saying it’s like Bruce/Joker is idiotic as The Joker has zero conflict. Best friends to lovers is the most generic, cliche, overused trope in Hollywood history. In total, I just find people like you to be sad. You want safe, generic, conservative storytelling. And it’s like you’ve never even seen the original trilogy. The 2nd movie in the OT ends with Vader cutting off his own son’s hand, making it seem like he’ll never redeem himself. Even Obi Wan tells Luke that Vader is lost to the dark side. Yet Vader does redeem himself because that is the point of Star Wars. A point you missed because you’re clearly not a real Star Wars fan. I don’t know why people are surprised about Rian’s quote about the hand touch. We already knew that he finds “forced intimacy” to be hot and interesting. Rey had to literally be out of character for this thing to happen.
He made it all about Kylo Ren. That’s what Reylo means: His perspective is the correct one. He wasn’t wrong to hurt her. The intimacy between them is something that Rey must submit to, or else she’s the abusive one because she “misunderstands” his intentions.
He is the film’s central character. To make him “sympathetic” and “redeemable”, you need to destroy the integrity and characterization of certain characters that impacts his arc or separate said characters from previous interactions (Like Rey with Finn, Finn from Poe) and reset it to fit the narrative.
Be honest. Rey from TFA (which happened like a day ago before TLJ) would have never given him the chance. She would have stayed on Ach-To to fight for Luke to come back. Rey from TFA is extremely patient. She knew all about waiting. To salvage broken parts and wait for it to heal. This was her hero. But nope, Luke is now permanently perceived as a villain to make Kylo more sympathetic and “redeemable”. It is what it is.
Bad writing.Rey doesn’t matter. Luke doesn’t matter. Han’s death was a good thing for Kylo, because he saw his son as a monster. Leia is a bad person too, because she also treated him like a monster.
Everyone is worthless of sympathy or forgiveness. Except Kylo.
I never want to hear or read any Reylo say that they love Rey or any other character again. Rian just reaffirmed what we’ve been saying all along. It isn’t a surprise at all.
Thank God he’s far away from IX.
