Arguably one of the most important aspects of Black Panther was that there were no white voices there to silence or derail the conversation about racism in America. So often as black people we have to spend our time simply trying to convince white people that racism exists rather than talking about the racism itself. But in Black Panther, t he statement was made that Black People in America were suffering under a racist system and there was no voice to dispute that. There was no one there to silence that truth, which allowed us to have a conversation about pain and solutions rather than simply trying to prove that racism exists.

“Michael B. Jordan rumored to come back for the Black Panther sequel”

Well if they follow the comic book wakanda has technology in order to bring people back from the dead and to save people from grave diseases like remember wakanda is the most technologically-advanced nation in the MCU so…👀

They could also introduce Brother Voodoo into the story. There’s a lot of ways scientifically and magically for them to bring back Killmonger.

yooo let’s do this

Give 👏 Disney™ 👏 more 👏 money 👏

Man almost like nearly the entire entertainment industry is owned by 4 corporations and regardless of any movie we see we give them money, this has absolutely nothing to do with a Black led movie with a majority black cast and an acclaimed black director passing by one of the biggest films of all time to try to break the decaded old Hollywood falsehood that black (or even non-white) creators and movies can’t make quality products people want to see.

Like, I get your point, but let’s be real here.

these two little girls came into work today, both black, both with their hair in space buns. and i went “you guys look like a princess i know” and they sighed and went “tiana?” because they were so use to being compared to the only black princess and i went “no. shuri” and omg, the oldest one lit up like a christmas tree. she was like “shuri is my favorite! no one believes she’s a princess!”

this is why representation matters

UPDATE:  The girls came back in yesterday after school got out and I was off. They had their hair in braids and I did the Wakanda salute to them and went “Princesses” and they did it back and went “Ma’am” and I love these girls. Their parents looked so happy omg

In the ongoing representation efforts by wizards, left handed midget serial killers born in Croatia named Steve seem to have been left out. When is the discrimination going to end?!?!

I get that you’re trying to mock diversity and inclusion, but I think it comes from an ignorance of what it means to feel excluded. When you’ve lived your life in the majority, it’s easy to take it for granted that you see yourself represented in the products and entertainment you use.

But every time we branch out (and I’m not exaggerating, *every* time) and represent a new segment of people, I get heartfelt messages from them about how much it means to them to see themselves in the game.

The reason “Wonder Woman” and “Black Panther” have been such cultural touchstones is because it’s allowing new groups of people to experience something they’ve never experienced before.

I get it’s easy to mock that when it’s something so basic to your experience that you don’t even realize it’s a thing you would miss if you didn’t have it, but I beg for you to try and see life through other people’s perspectives just as I always talk about how good designers see the game through different players’ perspectives.

Try to take actions that build up the world and make it a better place for everyone than tear it down for others to make your world better in comparison.

i haven’t yet seen black panther, but i have like so many questions in terms of Wakanda Jews.

Like at what point did the isolationism start in Wakanda so like up to where did we were last all on the same page in terms of various sefarim and interpretations of Halachot and Jewish history.

Cause like I can’t imagine if I found out for the first time about the Holocaust so like imagine Jews from Wakanda finding out for the first time.

But also imagine them finding out that for the we are also by the millions back in our homeland and able to freely live and visit there for the first time since the destruction of the Second Temple.

Also imagine all the sefarim and minhagim that Wakanda Jews have written and come up with that the rest of the Jewish population don’t know about.

Like I would love to know Wakanda Jews traditions.

Like think of all the new Zemirot and tunes to be learnt.

And like just like there is Ladino, Judeo-Arabic, and Yiddish there must be must versions mixing the various languages spoken by the people of Wakanda with Hebrew.

Also like what do their decorations look like for their Sukkot, and like how to they design their kippot, ketubahs, menorahs, shuls, mikvahs, mezuzah covers, haggadahs, and more.

What do their wedding look like and what traditions do they do.

Like I’m just brimming with questions as to what Jewish life is like in Wakanda and what the Jews there have learnt.

Because think of all the Halacha questions that needed to be answered because they have such advanced technology and with new technology comes a million and one Halacha questions.

Like one of the really cool things about Jews is that no matter where in the world and when in time there are some things that just are always the same there is still just so much history and culture and traditions and philosophy and food to be shared

I can’t help but think that in this universe where Wakanda exists for Jews it must be a really exciting time.

I imagine that the Wakandan Jewish community would be very old, especially considering that Wakanda was untouched by Arabic and European expansion into Africa.

Well, in the comics, Wakanda did know about the Holocaust, and King T’Chaka (although this is from the 60′s version where T’challa becomes BP about when Tony gets his ass blasted in Vietnam, so in MCU it’d be T’Chaka’s dad) gave Howard Stark the vibranium to make Steve’s shield.

Like, they were still isolationists who protected themselves by giving an ignorant goat-herder impression to outsiders.  They NEEDED to be underestimated if they were going to keep the war off their doorstep.

But T’Chaka flies himself, in the dead of night, to Howard Stark, a man who would know exactly what kind of high-tech rig would be needed to mine, refine, and use this metal, and says “That guy who punches Hitler in the face.  He needs a better shield.”

T’Chaka risked exposure, risked his country going into a terrible war, JUST to give Steve a shield.

A shield with a star in the center.

Fuck, man, Wakanda’s Jews were already on that ball.

But also, VIBRANIUM MEZUZAH,  I’m here for that!

Considering that M’Baku’s tribe has Hindu elements, with Hanuman, I wouldn’t be surprised by there being Jewish Wakandans. I wonder when they may have arrived though, the Roman diasporia? Wakanda seems like they closed themselves off before then, though.

Given that: 1) Bast the panther goddess sounds like it’s linked to the Egyptian deity Bastet, 2) Wakanda is (currently) located near South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia, and 3) there are established Jewish communities in at least two of those four countries, a connection between Wakanda and the Jewish people could potentially go as far back as King Solomon or the Exodus.

but isn’t hiduism only 500 years old so how would that work if Wakanda closed off before then

Hinduism is much older than that.

@fromchaostocosmos, the Rig Veda is in the 3500 period, putting it contemporary with the earliest estimates of the oldest books of the Tanakh.  Arguably this makes Hinduism older than Judaism.

Another reason why Black Panther’s success is important is because now Hollywood will look at it and say, “Hm, maybe not every single movie featuring black people has to be a period piece.”

Here’s the thing. I love period pieces as much as the next one but whenever they focus on black people, they’re usually about slavery. Yes, it’s important to show how terrible slavery was but the thing is those movies can be extremely hard to watch and it’s also just depressing. I love 12 Years a Slave but that is not a movie you can rewatch a lot. It’s depressing, it’s disturbing, you feel sad afterward. Black Panther? It’s fun, it’s exciting, it’s colorful!

That is one of the reasons why BP is important. It’s showing Hollywood that black people want to see more sci-fi and fantasy movies that feature black people.

Yes. BP was sci-fi, fantasy, action, adventure, political drama. ALL OF THESE GENRES!!!!
