Dentistry from around 9000 years ago, recovered from an ancient cemetery in Pakistan. To treat tooth decay, ancient man used sophisticated drills that were fashioned out of tiny pieces of flint and used a tiny bow to spin them. The holes were drilled to perfection, although no fillings had been used. This makes dentistry at least 4000 years older than originally believed.

I thought I had left the whole “cavepeople are stupid” notion behind when I learned more about history beyond the elementary school level but I was still floored by this. We don’t give ancient societies enough credit.
