JK Rowling just dropped a big revelation – Hogwarts had a Gaelic Medium Unit

mathan-na-mara:

I have mixed feelings about this. The optimist in me is pleased to have support for GME in such a popular franchise. However, the realist in me is annoyed by the implication that Gaels only were assigned to Ravenclaw. Furthermore, I’m put off by the fact that there were very few known Scots, even less of them Gaels, at Hogwarts. Not to mention Rowling’s anti-indyref stance which naturally goes hand-in-hand with Unionism, Anglocentrism, and anti-Celtic/Gaelic sentiment.

the older i get the more i realize what it meant for lily and james potter to die at 21. when you’re 11 and you’re reading the books, watching the films, 21 feels ancient. it did to me. even the actors they picked looked like they were in their thirties, because actual 21 year olds standing next to harry in the mirror would have been an excruciating sight i think. actual 21 year olds lined up in the photo sirius shows harry would have been horrible to see. they weren’t adults. i look at 21 year olds now and most of them are still teenagers. and i’m so sad because you know harry turns 21 and then 22 and then 28 and 29 and realizes how terribly young his parents were, how brave they were, how exceptional they were, GOD I’M SAD IM GETTING A BEER

I truly think Jason Isaacs as Lucius is one of the only roles I don’t see ANY differently in my mind’s eye when I’m reading the books. That’s…who he is.

There’s a couple that are close…but that’s the only one I can think of right now where it’s just…that EXACT interpretation. Voice and look and everything.

I think him and McGonagall were the only 2 for me

Richard Harris’ Dumbledore was pretty spot on for me. Michael Gambon’s not so much. And while I think Snape and McGonagall were perfectly cast, they aren’t how I originally pictured the characters.

Lucius though. Lucius is dead on perfect.

I pictured Snape with a beard due to the artwork in the early books. His voice though was exactly like Rickman’s

The fact that Arthur started physically fighting Lucius in public with cameras there…is REALLY one of those quintessentially Weasley things. Every single one of them is 1-3 provoking statements away from starting a fist fight.

It’s terrifying to think that household has nine Gryffindors in it and that’s it. NINE. Gryffindors are showy and fiery and assertive—and there’s NiNE of them? Idk why people make fun of the Weasleys when objectively the chaotic energy in that family is so scary. Nine Gryffindors. Jesus.

reasons i think harry potter is indian

shakspaeree:

  • harry could be anglicised form of hari, which is another name for the indian god vishnu who reincarnates on earth to restore justice
  • potter could be anglicised potdar or potluri
  • the night he died, james was making pretty-colored lights for harry 31 october 1981 was deepavali, the indian festival of lights
  • fleamont potter making money through potions after coming from india as a first gen. immigrant
  • fleamont potter made hair potions which was really just charmed coconut oil
  • people would notice harry’s green eyes all the time if he was half desi
  • when harry has visions through voldemorts eyes that he always distances himself using voldemort’s whiteness or how pale the hand was or something to that effect
  • unlikely couple james and lily potter prophesied to have a world-saving baby is literally the motif of the indian epic kumarasambhava
  • harry flying on buckbeak is god vishnu on garuda iconography
  • i am indian
  • and i like harry potter
  • he’s my sweet sunflower child

I have a headcanon that Hermione insists her children attend some primary muggle schooling before Hogwarts, just as she had done. Now, imagine Arthur Weasley attending his grandchild’s science fair, being the ultra proud grandfather….and yet also completely geeking out over absolutely EVERYTHING.

“That is a volcano, that is a VERY SMALL VOLCANO, how – young lady, how did you make this? Baking soda and food coloring? MARVELOUS!”
