wrt the laquan mcdonald case the cop’s defense tried (and luckily failed) to move the trial out of cook into the much whiter lake county, barred all but one black person from the jury, and argued that van dyke had the responsibility to keep shooting 17-year-old laquan while he was bleeding out onto the ground he lay on because he “twitched towards his knife” and therefore posed a threat

chicago police also threatened eyewitnesses into silence, deleted footage of the incident from nearby restaurant security cameras and purposefully filed several fabricated several reports corroborating the cop’s lies about being provoked into shooting

so, you know, acab

Acab?

all cops are bastards

This is so disgusting to watch. They are 12 year-old boys, who “matched the description” and had to experience this horror. A little boy crying scared to death and the other one telling him to stop , because he wants to stay alive is what makes me cry. Just try to understand this- they know the way cops treat black boys and trying to calm themselves down TO SURVIVE THIS. How horrifying is that?

All cops are pieces of shit. Don’t @ me.

This is where I fucking live.
The cops over here ain’t shit.
Personal experience.

I’m enraged.

The way they say “no one got hurt” makes me sick. They genuinely think they did nothing wrong as though they didn’t just scar those young boys mentally and emotionally. This is terrifying that they genuinely think their actions were justified.

Maybe I’m just too wary of police… But I gotta say, good intentions aside, the idea of a police database of autistic people is… Not one that I’m comfortable with?

But it’s apparently an initiative quite a few UK autism orgs are working on…

There should never be a database like that of any group of people… There is nothing stopping it from being misused if society takes a huge political shift. Like, I think this can even be abused by officers in the current system.

Who suggested a police database of autistic people?

The org “Autism Hampshire” had one under the title “Autism Passport”, but they redid their website literally last week (in between days I was collecting data for my dissertation, I thought I was losing the plot) and all mention of it has been removed. The page is available through the Wayback Machine, however, and reads:

“The Autism Alert Programme launched the Autism Passport on the 21 April 2011 in addition to the Alert Card and Alert Car Sticker. Autism Hampshire with the agreement of the individual with Autism or their parent if under 16 are able to create a passport for them.  The Passport will be placed onto the Hampshire Constabulary’s Safety Net System and will allow Criminal Justice System professionals access to information and strategies to support the individual.  The creation of a passport will enable organisations and professionals to identify the communication needs of an individual and to improve the service received by victims and witnesses and to ensure that those within the criminal justice system are dealt with in an appropriate manner. Our partners involved in this are the Police, Police Authority, HMCS (Magistrates), DutySolicitors, Youth Offending Team, HM Prison Winchester and Probation.”

I wrote this post after further data collection found that the org “Autism Sussex” had a similar scheme:

“This card is promoted and delivered by Sussex Police. Anyone who has a disability that makes it hard to communicate can register for a Pegasus card. When produced, the card and/or unique PIN number will inform any Officer that this individual needs additional help. The nature of the person’s communication problem, i.e. autism, can be obtained via a police radio call giving access to a secure database. The Officer is given relevant information that may enable reasonable adjustments be made at all stages of the investigation. This may well impact at an early stage on the eventual outcome. The database also holds contact details of two people, who know that person well, e.g. family members or carers. These contacts can act as an “appropriate adult” if not directly involved in the investigation. In the case of an individual with autism, people who know them well are likely to offer the best support.”

And, like, yeah, as I said in the original post, this all seems well-intentioned, and maybe I’m just paranoid, but I don’t think that you can escape the end result of these projects: The police having a database of members of an oppressed, minority group.

What type of liberal bullshit is this???

this makes me sick

this shit is happening over and over again and honestly i’m getting so scared for my fellow poc. have your camera on you at all times, i’m not even joking.

the moment shit goes down you needa record it, because without that evidence they’ll always believe the white folks.

this is what i mean when i say white women have privilege over men of color. and he knew it. all he had to do was touch her, even if it was to defend his family and they’d play victim. They would and he would get arrested. It’s sad that he couldn’t help them, but i know where he is coming from. They were all powerless. This is so sad.

And this is what i mean by aggressive acts of racism done by white women. Call it as it is–this is aggressive racism. This isn’t thinly veiled or anything, these white women are being aggressive. I am tired of people acting like white women’s acts of racism, are lesser than white men’s, or are “silent” forms of racism. These past few incidents have been aggressive racist white women trageting poc.

Why does Misty hate Mariah more than Shades though? Even before the flip.

1. Because, as much as I love (or want to love) her, Misty’s almost always wrong.

2. Internalized misogyny. She was extremely hostile to Claire in season one when her real “issue” was with Luke and a huge asshole to Priscilla for…reasons? And, if I recall correctly, this season, she let Luke blame Mariah and took partial blame herself for HIS punching a hole in Claire’s wall.

3. Because according to everyone this season, everything is Mariah’s fault, always.

I thought she was bitter towards Priscilla because Priscilla was Mariah’s sorority sister/had clouded judgment about Mariah. Just like Mariah was Ridenhour’s high school sweetheart.

John had every right to be upset, but all Mariah did in that feud was order him to get her a drink when she was a teen. And I think her bossiness/brattiness came in part from her deep trauma, like Trish’s had. She wasn’t looking at the deal with any delight, she was just curious.

I feel like Mariah definitely is responsible for a lot of the evil shit in season 2, but Shades is her Lady MacBeth figure. He’s constantly by the side of her. She has an easier time humanizing or seeing the potential in him, though she can’t fathom Mariah having anything in her. I wonder if she had known about Mariah’s trauma, about her tormented upbringing, would she have been able to see another side.

As for the Candace death, that was all Shades. So I really don’t know why Mariah was the sole blame.

I thought it weird that Misty didn’t/doesn’t buy that Mariah is capable of love. Mariah has a love for Cornell. She has some kind of love deep down for Tilda. She has a love for Shades.

I don’t know why she thought it would be a good idea to reconnect with Tilda, even if just to use her for political photo-ops (which in and of itself is a shitty move). She gambled with her own mental stability and lost.

She uses people and hurts and destroys them, but she has some capacity to love still inside her.

Mariah is such an interesting character. Complex, more so than people think. She does some gruesome shit. She gradually loses her grip on stability and plummets head first into darkness. I think it’s both what was inside her all along AND what past memories and new arrivals brought out.

Why does Misty hate Mariah more than Shades?

1. The writing has been misogynistic from Day 1, so it’s not surprising at all.

2. Misty probably thinks Shades is the accomplice and Mariah is the mastermind.

3. I love Misty, but she’s so hardcore about justice, that it’s a tad uncomfortable. You know how people point out that Brooklyn 99 is technically police propaganda? Yeah, B99 has nothing on Misty.

Misty’s arc this season reminded me of the post that goes around about how illegal activity by cops is more likely to look like the “good cops” on TV instead of the bad.

I got the impression Misty wasn’t sympathetic toward Shades as much as acting nice to try to get him to flip. Also misogyny.

please start thinking twice before reblogging explicit pictures/videos of black people being brutalized by police. please. especially if you’re a nonblack person. i know a lot of people are desensitized to it by now but take a moment to really fucking think about it
