Clyde Logan isn’t Ben Solo. Abraham H. Parnassus isn’t Ben Solo. Flip Zimmerman isn’t Ben Solo. These are different characters from different movies who happen to be played by Adam Driver. Shipping Rey with these characters is no different from shipping Rey with Steve Rogers, except for the fact that Steve Rogers isn’t played by Adam Driver. You can’t just say “X is Ben.” Are you seriously arguing that I can say “Steve Rogers is Ben Solo”, ship him with Rey, and call it Reylo? That’s ridiculous

If the author’s intention was to make Parnassus an older Ben Solo then that is most definitely Reylo. Did you ever hear of just ignoring something? Is your life seriously this damn boring that you’re up in arms over a crosstag that contains the same actors as the ones in the main ship? This is the first fandom I’ve come across where someone has had an issue with it. Usually fics like that are crosstagged with the main pairing so the shippers can easily find it.

It’s not that deep and it’s not that huge of a deal. And an author who writes this stuff for free shouldn’t have to cater to a few who don’t like how she does something. Stop being entitled and stop treating content creators like shit. They keep this fandom going and entertained. 

And if the author is writing Ben Solo as Steve Rogers/ Captain America with Rey then yes that is STILL Reylo. It’s called a crossover. I don’t particularly like crossovers but you know what I do when I come across it in the Reylo tag on AO3? I skip over it.

It’s that simple. 

In the Rumbelle fandom we ship Belle with other Robert Carlyle characters and call the practice Anyelle. Maybe we should call Rey/Adam ships AnyAdam or something to clarify.

I’m surprised that’s not a common practice in more fandoms tbh

All I’m going to say about the shit-for-brains anti that said the Nazi flag is the Reylo flag is that this just further proves how toxic and out of line anti culture has gotten.

If you’re a decent and sensible person who just dislikes a ship I highly suggest you drop the “anti” label and start using the word “NOTP” instead.

To me “anti” is always going to be a euphemism “that one queer person/Jewish person/poc you don’t like” and idk if trying to revise the definition will do much to stop bad actors from employing it that way. =/

The term kind of reminds me of the term “problematic.” It’s just too nebulous to be useful. If someone’s being like “kill yourself you reylo bitch” or whatever then they’re being a misogynistic suicide baiter and why not call them that?

I once was part of a rather innocuous redesign of a marketing campaign poster that attacked nobody IRL and the people who participated in that still got called “antis.”

So I saw a post a few days ago. The gist of it basically was that tumblr culture is fucked because people simply aren’t allowed to sympathize with villains anymore. “Remember all the Loki sympathy?” The post asks. “Whatever happened to that?” So I’ve been thinking two things about said post, both of which are, tbh, a bit contradictory. That’s why I’m venting mostly is just because I wonder if opening this up for discussion might help me reconcile my thoughts a bit.

Only reblogging this again because I saw a meta post by a Reylo shipper recently that I wanted to interact with but I refrained because I was worried that they’d assume I was doing so from a place of hostility and/or it would open them up to harassment down the reblog chain. This made me think of this post and how the general climate around liking villain characters has changed in fandom, in ways I like and ways I don’t.
