#GODDAMN IT THIS IS THE ONE TWEET I CARED MOST ABOUT #I NEED TO KNOW CARLYLE #DO YOU KNOW HOW AWKWARD IT IS TO MAKE UP NAMES FOR HIM IN FANFICTION? #IT IS THE WORST #GIVE ME HIS GODDAMN NAME SO I CAN CONTINUE WRITING DIRTY THINGS WITH YOUR CHARACTER #THANKS
Wasn’t there something going around about it possibly being Eli? Which just doesn’t fit at all. I hope it’s not something I hate if they ever do reveal it. Not that it matters anymore. Hey, how about Murdoch? Reverse the first 3 letters and you’ve got “Rum”. And it sounds sort of tough and threatening, like his persona was supposed to be.
Did you guys ever find out what his first name is?
Nope, he was never given one. Bobby joked once (at a convention, I think) that it was “Barbara”. I’m not sure what he was thinking when he answered this.
This is why you should ask OPEN questions, not closed ones. “What is Mr Gold’s first name?” etc.
Although having said that, I don’t want to know. Whatever they picked would be wrong. I love that the fandom has given him so many names (although I can’t read fics with certain names, but that’s just me being a weirdo)
OUAT will soon be over, and I’m feeling nostalgic. It occurred to me that I have never written post-2×01 reunion smut, so here goes. Have some Rumple self-loathing and Belle going for what she wants
He told her he was a monster, and she smiled at him.
It was almost too incredible to believe. Firstly, that Belle was alive. Secondly, that she didn’t hate him for what he had done. Thirdly, that she loved him. Or at least she said that she did. He couldn’t understand why. She was as beautiful as ever, of course, and he… well, he was as dark as ever. His stunt with the wraith proved that. She had forgiven him, because that was who she was, but rage still burned in him. Rage and fury and the desire to skin Regina alive. He wouldn’t, though. Not now. Not yet.
He had been sitting in the shop as night fell, spinning gold almost without thinking, getting used to the magic flowing through his body once more. It was different here, but not so different that it affected his abilities. The Dark Curse, it seemed, transcended realms. He had let the power flow through him, out through his fingertips into the straw, spinning threads of gold to coil and spool onto the floor at his feet. It was comforting, calming, and the sound of the shop doorbell had barely registered.
This is perfect! Of course Belle has to made the first move. Rumple should’ve known that Belle would read any book she get her hands on *snickers* good thing he didn’t check the books in the Dark Castle library when he gave it to Belle 😉
We know how curious our girl is – I wish they had time to act out every chapter of that book she read 😀
That does hit all the nostalgia buttons! Thanks for writing.
And of course Rumple would be good at cooking and thoughtful enough to remember what Belle liked.
Yeah, I always headcanon Rumple as being a good cook. There’s the potion-making, for a start, and also having been poor means having to know how to cook what you can afford and make it as nutritious and tasty as you can.

I didn’t realize how far along you were! (I’ve had…
Ah, life. I heard that it tends to happen on occasion *g* Glad you liked it, though!
With noticing things… I think the fact that I write up my thoughts for an audience afterwards does help to crystallise a lot of things I would otherwise have forgotten about into concrete thoughts. (Though Belle’s impulsiveness is something… well, it reminded me of someone I know and love a lot, so I may have had an unfair advantage there)
As for Milah… yyyyeah, no, she didn’t exactly endear herself to me. To put it mildly.
And all the yes on Rumple having several lifetimes’ worth of a habit of playing things close to his chest. Actually, I think it started even before that, because… well, he obviously didn’t have many (or any, really) friends in his village, and he is not the kind of person who would unload his personal worries on his son. So he’s just… not talked about them to anyone for however-long-the-hell-it’s-been. (I have been advised to treat timelines on this show with a kind eye and maybe the occasional handwave, and I think that’s not the worst idea XD) The thing is… he obviously knows that this is a problem. Oh, he probably makes up all kinds of excuses to avoid the realisation (”I didn’t lie to her” yeah, pal, but that’s not the issue and you know it), but in the end, he still gets there and as you said: he tries to do better for his loved ones. (Or loved one, currently, since Bae is still nowhere to be seen. ::taps watch:: Hurry up, buddy, none of us are getting any younger)
That’s something I’m starting to love more and more about Rumple – he’s both one for the grand dramatic gestures (e.g. that… thing in the woods in “Desperate Souls” where he threw personal dignity allll the way out of the window to buy his son a few more hours of freedom), but also for the small ones, like asking a professional how to deal with his (presumed) son’s resentment of him (and I think anyone who’s ever had therapy knows how hard it must have been to knock on that door), or asking Charming – a man he might respect, but who he’s not really friends with (yet? ::fingers crossed::) – for advice on how to improve his relationship with Belle. It’s just… he tries so hard. He also messes up pretty spectacularly, but dear God, he tries.
…actually, that makes the whole drama at the bean portal (I love this show) even more tragic. Because if he’d actualy had the time to think that through, or maybe, y’know, talk it over with another actual adult, I have no doubt he’d have gone through with Bae. Not happily or boldly, maybe, but definitely willingly. Instead… welp.
Was this almost half as long as the actual impressions post? Mayyyyybe. I did mention the “favourite character” thing, right?
What’s also really cool about Rumple is that Bobby plays him differently in every episode depending on when the flashbacks take place. He changes the accent and mannerisms ever so slightly to reflect how Rumple is becoming a different person.
I can’t forgive Zelena not because she was holding Rumple in the cage. Not because she victimized him. Because she managed to destroy this.
I’ll never forgive her for all of the above. Including breaking his spirit.
He’s still got a witty and funny one-liner now and then, but yeah, Zelena sucked so much of the life out of him by killing off Nealfire, and abusing him. I’ll never forgive that. Also, I think Bobby, who is, ironically, still the best and most seasoned actor on this show, grew tired of the bad writing with Adam and Eddy ruining his character and OUAT as a whole, after they killed off Nealfire along with most of what once made this show truly fun to watch as a whole with him.
He’s 300 years old. He’s met so many people over the years that he’s been impressed and unimpressed by, he’s taken on their voices, he’s taken on their accents and their mannerisms. He’s layered so much he’s lost himself.
