this is less an ideological point than a practical one, but calling for admins to shut down fash blogs will almost certainly eventually also result in shutting down “political extremism” in general, because idiot bourgeois staff are incapable of distinguishing “hey capitalism and imperialism are a blight on the history of humanity” from “we want to exterminate the enemies of the white race”
the same is true for encouraging the state to label political dissidents as “terrorists.” grab your liberal woke points for asserting white supremacist violence is a terrorist act, but don’t pretend that that legal designation won’t come down hard on leftist movements, too, likely harder because the left actually threatens class society, whereas white supremacists and their ilk are simply its arch-realization.
Most states are usually ALREADY coming down hard on leftist movements or at least have done so in the past. This post sounds a lot like the people defending free speech for nazis …
this post is a jewish communist who is already watching her comrades get arrested by the feds under vague laws against political dissidence trying to suggest that the solution to curtailing Nazi social presence is not the state but antifascist organizing, both community work and direct action.
the bourgeois state will never silence fascists and expanding its powers to do so will only hurt us, not them. look at people like Richard Spencer and Milo – their ability to book speaking tours with major universities across the US (universities which are supposed bastions of progressive thought in an otherwise arch-reactionary nation) speaks to the degree to which institutions themselves are willing to permit their presence (while those same universities regularly shut down pro-Palestinian activist groups, for example).
what shut down Richard Spencer’s uni tour was antifa – that’s not a hypothesis, he admitted it outright. what will shut down N*zi organizing is not working with institutions that at best are indifferent and at worst actively sympathetic with fascists, it’s direct action.
Earlier this month,
CNN’s Brian Stelter broke the news that Sinclair Broadcast Group, owner
or operator of nearly 200 television stations in the U.S., would be
forcing its news anchors to record a promo about “the troubling trend of
irresponsible, one sided news stories plaguing our country.” The
script, which parrots Donald Trump’s oft-declarations of developments
negative to his presidency as “fake news,” brought upheaval to newsrooms
already dismayed with Sinclair’s consistent interference to bring
right-wing propaganda to local television broadcasts.
The
net result of the company’s current mandate is dozens upon dozens of
local news anchors looking like hostages in proof-of-life videos, trying
their hardest to spit out words attacking the industry they’d chosen as
a life vocation.
Not that any of it matters to Sinclair, which,
with the help of a friendly federal government, is about to swallow up
another 40 television stations — increasing its reach and its lead over
competitors like Hearst and Scripps. The script, as transcribed by ThinkProgress based on the KOMO (Seattle) version, reads:
Hi, I’m(A) ____________, and I’m (B) _________________…

are extremely proud of the quality, balanced journalism that KOMO News
produces.
(A) But we’re concerned about the troubling trend of
irresponsible, one sided news stories plaguing our country. The sharing
of biased and false news has become all too common on social media.
(B)
More alarming, some media outlets publish these same fake stories…
stories that just aren’t true, without checking facts first.
(A)
Unfortunately, some members of the media use their platforms to push
their own personal bias and agenda to control ‘exactly what people
think’…This is extremely dangerous to a democracy.

it’s our responsibility to pursue and report the truth. We understand
Truth is neither politically ‘left nor right.’ Our commitment to factual
reporting is the foundation of our credibility, now more than ever.

I’m concerned this video is being shared on the internet without that added context and might even push people into being more supportive of Trump because they think it’s an attack on him from his opponents in the MSM.
No, because they barely exist outside major newspaper op-ed pages, and there are maybe two or three of them that are actually bothered by his policies. Most of them are fascists who basically agree with him on everything, they just don’t like his particular vulgarian aesthetic. I really don’t care that editors of segregationist magazines call him a cad.
What people are also forgetting is that most of the conservatives who denounced Trump in the primaries are fully on board with him now. Dana Loesch signed an open letter denouncing him in The National Review, and now she makes agitprop videos calling for violence against all who oppose him.
So no, there is nothing comforting about Erick Erickson writing articles against Trump because he’s insufficiently theocratic in between rants about David Hogg being a crisis actor, every conservative under 70 freely joined a nihilistic white supremacist death cult of their own free will, and fascists pouting about the corrupt demagogue because he didn’t go to Yale doesn’t move me at all.
“It’s our time”: A record number of black women are running for office in Alabama
Nearly three dozen African-American women are running for
office as Democrats in deep-red Alabama.
It’s an unprecedented number, according to
Democratic party officials. And many are running for the first time.
Many of the candidates were inspired by Doug Jones’
Senate win, the #MeToo movement, opposition to President Trump and a desire to
carry on former President Obama’s legacy.
Jameria Moore, an attorney, is running for a judgeship on
the Jefferson County Probate Court.
“It’s so important that we step up, that we show
the nation that we can lead,” she said. “That, here in Alabama, we’re ready to
lead our state into the future.”
Cheri Gardner, a candidate for Jefferson County court clerk,
says she felt “electrified” when Jones won.
“I don’t know if it was Doug Jones as much
it was Roy Moore himself lighting the fire under African Americans and
African-American women,” Gardner told NBC News.
