objective quality of a media (show/game/anime/etc) has almost zero meaning compared to: what you go in expecting, what you need emotionally in that period of your life, and how you see it through the lens of resonant thematic elements specific to you as an individual.
Republicans are spreading lies about her background, claiming she lied about where she was raised, that she’s actually rich and is just pretending to be working class. Clearly they are terrified of her. *eg*
How do people not understand that it’s possible to be working-class and live in a well-off area? It’s hard to do because of the COL but it’s possible.
Y’all, take a breath. I know it’s easy to be afraid, to be outraged, and to get worked up by the renewed waves of antisemetism. But these neo, meso, and paleo nazis are simply adding their names to the roll call of failure.
We are a people that can trace our roots almost 6,000 years. How many people can say that? How many nations and people have been lost during that time? We have survived famine, war, diaspora (twice!), and holocaust. The Greeks failed to annihilate us, as did the Babylonians, the Persians, the Romans, the Catholics of Spain and Portugal, the Germans and their collaborators. The Jewish faith has multiple holidays dedicated to our survival in unlikely circumstances and improbable military victories.
Don’t underestimate our enemies, but don’t get down on our chances either.
Not to mention their WORST nightmare is our reality. They fear “”“white genocide”“” because they think it will make them into a persecuted minority. Their fear of even the potential of having the lived experiences of people they’ve oppressed is a notable weakness of theirs.
the thing that baffles me about the controversy surrounding my cultural christianity post is that it’s reblogged by so many leftists and social justice advocates. this should be elementary –
the US and most of the west was founded by christians – common knowledge.
these christians established a culture influenced by their religion – obvious conclusion.
there is still a christian majority when considering all religious population in the west – fact.
christian brought christianity, easter, their values, etc with them when establishing the culture – not a complex idea to wrap your head around.
christianity is so prevelant that you can assume most americans and other westerners have religious relatives, ancestors, or are christian themselves – check.
antisemitism and islamophobia, rampant in the west, are caused by assumptions that christianity or “christian” atheism is the default – that’s clear.
homophobia, transphobia, anti-immigrant policies, racism, are often influenced by christian readings of the bible – yep.
humans are influenced by the culture around them – duh, that’s where the concept of the fact that we’re all racist/sexist/bigoted and we need to unlearn those things comes from.
then why is it such a shock that y’all celebrating christmas, discussing the bible and religion from a purely christian standpoint, have inherent values that come from christianity, all these things that come from the culture surrounding you – makes you christian?
what is it that makes that hard to swallow?
it wasn’t pagans who brought christmas over the sea. it wasn’t muslims who installed puritan values in popular culture. it wasn’t jews, who have SIX SEXES, who made the concept of “there are only two genders” so prevelant. it wasn’t hindus who made “damn” and “jesus christ” and “hell” everyday curses.
it was christians.
it’s not shameful to be a part of your culture. it’s not shameful to admit that it influences you, for better or for worse.
but jesus fucking christ, denying it doing nothing except making my life a permanent headache.
It’s people on Shuri Udaku’s internet who really think Shades DREADED Mariah’s… anything. I can’t relate. That man climbed into her personal space at every opportune moment.
Shades been sweating Mariah from moment he laid eyes on her. To the point she actually called him out about his thirst. Or do they not realize what that exchange meant when she asked Cornell , ‘Does your guard need a drink of water?’
And you’re right he almost always initiated physical contact. Intent on making sure she wasn’t distancing herself physically or emotionally.
This man has done everything but literally drool on her and people still convince themselves he was not interested in her sexually.
i don’t know the original context, but i do know there’s a significant number of people who have a gut-level negative reaction to m/f femdom or anything like it–the other side of the coin of the gut-level positive reaction society trains us to have to m/f relationships where the sexual and/or emotional power dynamic goes the other way–and “compliment” the man by imagining he has the “right” feelings about it and refusing to see what’s actually going on
That may play into it, since she’s much more overtly sexual. I tend to think her age and complexion account for MOST of the problem, either separately or combined.
There are seriously dummies out there who ended this season thinking he wasn’t really into her? Dude was in love. He says it when he has no possible ulterior motive for doing so.
He shoots a guy in the head for insulting her race and appearance, a guy they needed for business purposes. (Unfortunately the subtitles don’t translate what he’s saying, but it’s pretty racist and colorist) I was afraid starting this season that they might write it as him using her or what have you, but killing Arturo was a huge inconvenience, and he had no reason to do it other than genuine rage that this guy was tacking shit about the woman he loved.
@i-just-like-commenting EXACTLY! That was actually the first mistake in what ended up being a series of unfortunate events.😂 Even though a lot of what happened that led to their downfall ended up being Mariah’s fault ultimately, the first critical error was actually Hernan’s. He couldn’t let that slight to Mariah rock and so he killed the best buyer for their business on GP –which left them wide open to all the crap with Cockroach and Nigel/Bushmaster. It wasn’t the smart play (that Shades usually makes), it wasn’t the prudent play but he was going from his gut. And there was just no way he was gonna let some dude talk shit about his woman. He knew better, Shades is not easily rattled (they showed that fact about him on multiple occasions through both seasons) but he did it anyway. Not because he’s a hot-head or blood-thirsty, but to clearly show the audience that he was in love.
I don’t know what more these blind people need? They showed his feelings in context as seen above, also in actual lines of script…I mean, did they want Shades to carve it into his forehead? People are not only obtuse…but just plain old racist and sexist.
